Why Choose Cooper for Pediatric Surgery?

Parents and caregivers choose Cooper for pediatric surgery because of our:

  • Surgical expertise: When your child needs surgery, safety is your top priority – and ours. Our team includes pediatric surgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists, and subspecialists, many of them fellowship-trained in their areas of expertise. This advanced training means our experts are skilled to perform a full range of surgeries on children of all ages, including newborns.
  • Team approach: Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper has 27 pediatric subspecialist programs – more than any other hospital in South Jersey. Our specialists work together to ensure your child receives timely, expert care for any surgical procedure.
  • National recognition: Cooper’s pediatric surgeons are recognized by the National Pediatric Trauma Registry for surgical excellence, giving you added confidence that your child is in expert hands.
  • Research and innovation: As part of an academic health system, our pediatric surgery team remains at the forefront of new pediatric surgery techniques and research to give your child the highest level of care possible.
  • Thoughtful care approach: We understand that surgery can be scary for children. That’s why we offer special touches to ease anxiety – like letting young patients drive remote-controlled mini cars into the operating room.  Our pediatric surgeons also meet families in the operating room before surgery to show children the scrubs doctors will wear and equipment to help them feel comfortable and confident.

Post Procedure (Recovery)

At Cooper, we care for children in a dedicated pediatric environment – a children’s hospital within an adult hospital. When a child requires admission after surgery, they are cared for on our pediatric floor, which features single and semi-private rooms, a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Parents are welcome to stay with their child around the clock, supporting comfort and connection throughout the recovery process.

Our team is committed to managing both the physical and emotional aspects of recovery. We prioritize pain control and work to reduce any anxiety children may feel during their hospital stay. Depending on your child’s needs, their care plan may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support.

In addition to clinical care, we provide social work and child life services as well as opportunities for play, games, art therapy, and even pet therapy – all designed to help children feel more at ease and supported as they heal.
