Dr. Ross joined Cooper in 1984 as an attending Trauma Surgeon and served as the Trauma Division Head from 1988 until 2015, during which time Cooper’s Trauma Center achieved national recognition for clinical care, education, and clinical research. Since 1989, the Trauma Center has been continuously credentialed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Dr. Ross served as Program Director for Cooper’s Surgical Residency for two separate terms, and for the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.
Dr. Ross is a graduate of the University of Delaware, and obtained his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed his General Surgery residency at York Hospital in York, PA; and a fellowship in Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He is board certified in surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Ross has numerous scientific publications in the fields of trauma, emergency general surgery, emergency medical systems, and critical care, which were his areas of clinical practice. His work in trauma has been recognized by numerous national, state, and regional organizations. His clinical and educational contributions at Cooper have been recognized with the W. Eric Scott, MD award for Critical Care Education, and the Diane Barton Caring award.
Dr. Ross served as the President of the Medical Staff of Cooper University Health Care from 2019-2021, and as Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery from 2011. He served as Chair of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, and on the national ACS-COT. He has also been President of the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, the nation’s oldest surgical society. He was a founding member and Chair of the New Jersey State Trauma Center Council and has been an advocate for trauma system development in New Jersey. He retired from clinical practice in July 2023, but remains an honorary member of the medical staff of Cooper, and Professor of Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
Dr. Ross and his wife, Carolyn, live in Cherry Hill, NJ. They have three adult children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
