Visitor Guidelines and Hours

Visitors are very important to the healing process of our patients. When it is safe, we want visitors to be there for our patients.

Visitation Guidelines

Visitation is an important part of our patients’ comfort and well-being. To ensure our patients receive the rest and care needed for recovery, we are asking visitors to observe the following visiting guidelines.

  • Visiting hours are limited.
  • All visitors must be 15 years or older. Rare exceptions may be made. Please check with your care team.
  • All visitors must wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before visiting a patient.
  • Visitors must remain in the patient’s room throughout their visit, except when asked by a Cooper team member to move to another location due to a procedure or other reason.
  • Flower are permitted in all patient areas except for our critical care units, Pavilion 5 at Cooper University Hospital, and any rooms with immunocompromised patients.
  • To protect patients, visitors, and staff with latex allergies, latex balloons are prohibited. Mylar balloons are acceptable.
  • Visitors are expected to respect the established visiting guidelines of each clinical area.
  • All Cooper locations are smoke-free. We ask that all visitors refrain from smoking while visiting any of our hospital or office locations.
  • We request that visitors be sensitive to the needs of other patients and families by speaking softly, showing consideration to all, and respecting individuals around them.

Patient and Guest Code of Conduct

Cooper University Health Care is committed to providing high quality health care and building healthy and thriving communities. Everyone should expect a safe, caring, and inclusive environment in all our spaces.

Our Patient and Guest Code of Conduct helps us to meet this goal and applies to all patients, visitors, and accompanying family members. Words or actions that are disrespectful, racist, discriminatory, hostile, or harassing are not welcome. Examples include:

  • Offensive comments about others’ race, accent, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or other personal traits
  • Refusal to see a clinician or other team member based on these personal traits
  • Physical assaults or verbal threatening to inflict bodily harm or destroy property
  • Making threats of violence through phone calls, letters, voicemail messages, email, or other forms of written, spoken, or electronic communication, including social media
  • Intimidating or harassing staff or other patients
  • Damaging business equipment or property
  • Bringing weapons of any kind
  • Use of alcohol or illegal drugs; visitors may be removed if they are under the influence
  • Using sexual or vulgar words or actions
  • Disrupting another patient’s care or experience

If we believe you have violated the Code of Conduct with unwelcome words or actions, you will be given an opportunity to share your point of view. We will carefully consider all of the information before any decisions are made on how to proceed.

Repeated or continued violations of the Patient and Guest Code of Conduct may lead to patients being asked to make other plans for their non-emergency care needs.

If you witness or are the target of any of these behaviors, please report it to a member of your care team.

Visitor Passes

Visitors to any of Cooper's hospitals must obtain a visitor pass from the information desk in the main lobby.

The visitor pass system is designed to enhance safety, make it easier to identify visitors, and ensure visitors are in the right location. The passes are stickers that include a photo of the visitor, their full name, and the exact location of their visit. The system requires visitors to show a government-issued photo ID and have their photo taken to obtain a pass.

Masking Guidance

All Cooper hospitals and outpatient offices: Team members must wear a mask when entering the room of patients who are immunocompromised or have certain medical conditions. Wearing a mask is optional for visitors.

For questions and more information, please contact the Cooper location you wish to visit or contact Patient Relations at 856.342.2432.
