Initial Orientation and Training

Week 1

This week of orientation provides general information that covers organizational and role-specific policies and procedures. Additionally, new team members will learn about our electronic medical record, EPIC. 

Note: New-to-practice nurses must complete all three weeks of initial orientation and training before starting unit-based orientation. For scheduling conflicts, please refer to your recruiter or hiring manager.

New Team Member Orientation

Cooper Conference Center, Main Hospital

EPIC CLN modules are to be completed by EPIC training on Thursday and Johns Hopkins modules are to be completed by Friday, before safe-patient handling and early mobility training.

Patient Care Services Orientation Day 2

Week 2

During this week of orientation, nurses will be immersed in the Skills Workshop. This hands-on skill-building portion of the Nurse Residency Program provides the new-to-practice nurses with a strong foundation in fundamental nursing care. The new-to-practice nurse will gain an advanced level of comfort and familiarity with both nursing skills and the equipment used in every-day patient care at Cooper University Health Care.

Skills Workshop

Week 3

This week of orientation includes essential classes needed to properly care for Cooper University Health Care’s patient population. Additionally, nurses will be provided with observation time in their units to acclimate to the environment before starting their unit-based orientation.
