Using the latest techniques – including vaginal, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted approaches – our highly experienced surgeons treat a wide range of gynecologic conditions with precision and compassion. Whether you’re managing a noncancerous condition, facing a cancer diagnosis, or exploring options to support fertility, our team is here to guide you with personalized care.
Conditions We Treat
Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery may be recommended to various conditions while preserving fertility when possible and avoiding the need for large incisions or prolonged hospital stays. Our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat:
- Abnormal bleeding
- Cervical, uterine, endometrial, and ovarian cancers
- Pelvic pain
- Endometriosis
- Congenital uterine anomalies and variants
- Pelvic and abdominal adhesions
- Uterine fibroids, including large or painful fibroids
- Ovarian cysts
- Pelvic floor prolapse
- Bladder and bowel incontinence associated with prolapse
- Infertility-related conditions
Robotic-Assisted Surgery with the da Vinci® System
For many patients, robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System offers the most precise and least invasive option available. Surgeons at Coper used this advanced system to perform delicate procedures through tiny 1 cm incisions.
The da Vinci® System enhances the surgeon’s vision, dexterity, and control – making the procedure especially beneficial for complex cases such as:
- Patients with a high body mass index (BMI)
- Those with extensive scar tissue from prior surgeries
- Large fibroids or advanced endometrioses
- Certain gynecologic cancers
While not appropriate for every condition, da Vinci® robotic surgery has helped many patients experience:
- Less post-operative pain
- Less scarring
- Minimal blood loss and tissue damage
- Less time in the hospital (usually one day)
- Faster recovery at home
- Better clinical outcomes
These types of procedures include:
This procedure uses a thin, lighted tube inserted through the vagina and into the uterus to diagnose or treat abnormal vaginal bleeding, remove fibroids and polyps, or collect a tissue sample.
A small camera is inserted through a tiny incision in the abdomen, allowing the surgeon to observe and treat issues such as endometriosis, ectopic pregnancies, and ovarian cysts and to detect adhesions and scar tissue that can be removed.
Removal of the uterus, either partially or completely, may be performed vaginally, abdominally, or through minimally invasive techniques. It’s often recommended for conditions such as uterine fibroids, abnormal vaginal bleeding, endometriosis, a thickening of the uterus (adenomyosis), and cancer.
For patients with noncancerous fibroids in the uterus who wish to preserve fertility, myomectomy removes fibroids while keeping the uterus intact.
This surgery involves removing one or both ovaries and may be done to treat endometriosis, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovary torsion (or twisting), and cancer. An oophorectomy is also a preventative surgery for certain patients who are at a higher risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer.
This surgery involves the removal of ovarian cysts, usually through laparoscopy, although larger cysts may require more extensive surgery through the abdomen. This procedure may be needed if a cyst is causing problems because of its size, ruptures or bleeds, grows after the onset of menopause, or raises concern for cancer.
An excision for endometriosis is a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure that involves removing part of the affected tissue while preserving the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.
