Diagnostic and Treatment Services

Our specialists use advanced techniques and tools to accurately diagnose and treat lung and airway conditions, These include:

  • Bronchoscopy – A procedure using a scope to view the lungs and airways.
  • Pleuroscopy – A minimally invasive way to examine the space between the lungs and chest wall and obtain tissue samples.
  • Pulmonary function testing – A series of tests to see how well the lungs are working.
  • Thoracentesis – A procedure to relieve excess fluid from the chest cavity.
  • Trans-tracheal oxygen therapy – Delivers oxygen directly into the lungs through a small, flexible catheter that passes from the neck into the trachea or windpipe.

Comprehensive Care for Breathing Difficulties

Shortness of breath – whether sudden or long-term – can interfere with daily life and be caused by a variety of conditions. The Cooper Breathing Center brings together a team of specialists to evaluate each patient quickly and comprehensively, helping to identify the cause and develop a personalized treatment plan.

Breathing problems may stem from lung disease, heart or vascular disease, obesity, allergies, anxiety and more. Once the underlying cause is identified and properly treated, many patients experience significant improvement or complete resolution of their symptoms altogether.

Innovative Tools for Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Cooper is a regional leader in offering robotic-assisted, minimally invasive options for diagnosing lung cancer diagnosis as well as a sophisticated ultrasound-guided system that can target smaller lesions and provide real-time feedback during a biopsy.

  • Ion endoluminal system – Cooper is the first health system in South Jersey to use this system by Intuitive Surgical. This minimally invasive platform allows physicians to biopsy hard-to-reach lung tumors, offering advanced maneuverability and navigation through the narrow airways of the lung and potentially resulting in early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer and leading to more optimal outcomes.
  • iNodTM ultrasound guided system – This single-use device by Boston Scientific enables real-time visualization feedback during biopsy of small or difficult-to-reach lung lesions, helping to ensure greater accuracy and safer outcomes.
